The following review contains spoilers for LOST through the current episode, “The Lie” originally broadcast January 21st, 2009.

LOST is finally back, and I will be your trusted reviewer. I thought I’d start off my first review with a simple explanation of how my reviews will go this season. I’ll start out with the most important point – I do not read spoilers of any kind. You will never once get a spoiler in one of my reviews because I do not allow them to enter my brain. I even go to the point where I will not watch the promos following the episode. I will, of course, delve into the specifics of the episodes I’m reviewing, and I will, no doubt, examine my own theories on what is happening and what might happen in the future. But my guess will be as good as anyone’s, and if you’re like me, you’ll be able to read my reviews safely.

Fringe 1×11 “Bound” review

January 22nd, 2009

This review contains spoilers for the episode “Bound,” originally broadcast 1/20/08.

For people watching Fringe for the first time, possibly because it’s now being aired after the juggernaut that is American Idol, this was an excellent episode to catch. For one, with this Harris character harassing Olivia Dunham and the whole department, we get a quick recap of how her team was assembled and what their objectives are as well as their strengths as they ignore the obstacles he attempts to place in front of them. It’s the conclusion of an arc that has been going on for several episodes as well, but a clear indication that clearly, we’re just getting started.

The Season Five premiere of ABC’s Lost has just ended on the East Coast.  We hope to have our review of the two-part season premiere online within a few days, courtesy of our contributing writer (and Lost fanatic) Quinn. But we also thought we’d try making a “sound off” post every Wednesday so fans of the series can talk about the episode that just aired and help make sense of what they just saw.

Be warned of spoilers for tonight’s episodes — so if you’re on the West Coast or plan on watching the episodes on your DVR or online, proceed with caution.  Now sound off.

ABC has started something called LOST: Showdown in which it allows fans of the show to vote for their favorite moments from the first four seasons. It began on January 7th and the second round either begins today.

Currently there are two moments from each of the first four seasons; tonight’s voting will see that number whittled down to one for each season.

Season 1 – The Crash vs Opening the Hatch
Season 2 – The Swan Station Map vs Desmond Turns the Key
Season 3 – We Have to Go Back vs Charlie’s Sacrifice
Season 4 – Desmond’s Call vs Ben Moves the Island

Next week, on Wednesday, January 28th, the top moment from Season One will go head-to-head with the moment from Season Three while the moment from Season Two will compete with the moment from Season Four. The two winning moments will vie for top stop on Wednesday, February 4th with the fan favorite moment from Lost revealed on Wednesday, February 11th.

Cast your vote now.

The following review contains spoilers for Legend of the Seeker through the current episode, “Puppeteer” originally broadcast the weekend of January 17th, 2009.

In my review of last week’s episode I wrote that it had replaced “The Listener” as my least-favorite episode of Legend of the Seeker thus far.  No longer.  “Puppeteer” now easily tops the list.  It was brutal to watch, mostly because it focused heavily on Zedd, a character who is little more than an old guy who yells a lot.  Even an appearance by Darken Rahl (his first since the two-part pilot?) couldn’t save this episode.  Not only was Zedd front and center for most of the episode, it included not one but two annoying children: a princess and her playmate.

Lost Returns Tonight

January 21st, 2009

After months of waiting, Season Five of Lost premieres tonight on ABC with a three-hour “event.”  Kicking things off at 8PM is a new recap special titled “Lost: Destiny Calls,” followed by the first two episodes of the season aired back-to-back: “Because You Left” at 9PM and “The Lie” at 10PM.

I know that forst has done a great job getting people ready for the LOST premiere tomorrow night, but as the guy who will be reviewing LOST for you this season, I wanted to get you ready in my own way.  So, if you dare, come in for a completely-spoiler-free look at season 5.  I’ll recap what’s previously happened and maybe speculate a bit on where the show is going.

Fringe 1×10 “Safe” review

January 19th, 2009

This review contains spoilers for the episode “Safe,” originally broadcast 12/2/08.

The cliffhanger from the fall portion of the season, “Safe” is a culmination itself of a series of elements from past episodes that include names like John Scott, Mitchell Loeb, and David Jones, the latter of whom both debuted four episodes earlier with “In Which We Meet Mr. Jones.” Scott, meanwhile, who technically was only alive during the pilot, is relevant both in his “haunting” of Olivia Dunham and as regards the current whereabouts of his body, in the clutches of Nina Sharpe and Massive Dynamic.

The following review contains spoilers for Ghost Whisperer through the current episode, “This Joint’s Haunted,” originally broadcast January 16th, 2009.

After what seemed like forever, there was finally some forward momentum in the ongoing storyline that has seen Jim/Sam attempting to reconnect with his fiancee. At the end of last week’s episode, Jim/Sam had decided to go see Nikki, his fiancee, and drove off. At the start of this episode, Melinda is able to convince Jim/Sam to let her join him on a “road trip” that will allow him to see Nikki and her to pick up a garage full of antiques.
