Heroes – 3×20 – “Cold Snap”
March 24th, 2009
Heroes
“Cold Snap”
Originally Broadcast Monday, March 23rd, 2009
Taking a week off seems to have done Heroes a whole lot of good. “Cold Snap” was an excellent episode, easily the best of the season, and that’s with a pretty big Hiro storyline. Unfortunately, it looks like it was also the lowest-rated episode of the series to date, with fewer than 6.5 million viewers tuning in. Can word of this episode’s high quality lure viewers back to Heroes? Perhaps. A lot is riding on the last five episodes of the season; the Season Three finale airs April 27th.
Comics I Like – Monday, March 23rd, 2009
March 23rd, 2009
When I first began expanding the scope of my collecting — and by expanding I mean moving outside Marvel — I would take a trip every week to a comic book shop about thirty minutes from home. That’s an hour round-trip. This was during the summer of 2008 when gas prices were getting pretty high. One afternoon I decided to sit down and do the math to see if I would be saving money buy purchasing my comics online through Discount Comic Book Service (DCBS).
Legend of the Seeker – 1×16 – “Bloodline”

Legend of the Seeker
“Bloodline”
Originally Broadcast the Weekend of Saturday, March 21st, 2009
What’s this? Another episode of Legend of the Seeker I really enjoyed? That makes three in a row. Note that “Bloodline” saw the return of Zedd, a character I truly cannot stand. And yet, I still enjoyed the episode. Incredible! I don’t know what to make of this strange turn of events. It used to be a bit of a chore to write these reviews, because I had to sit and think about episodes that didn’t always entertain me. Now, however, I’m actually having fun with the reviews.
Farewell to Galactica – Analyzing the Finale
March 23rd, 2009
(First of Two Parts)
It should come as no surprise to anyone who knows me — or my views and opinions regarding Battlestar Galactica over the years — that I found the series finale disappointing. More specifically, I felt it was maddeningly frustrating. I won’t go as far as to suggest it was insulting to me as a viewer, because I don’t take my television that seriously.
Over the past few weeks as the series was winding down I’ve had time to reconsider my feelings about the show. And while I still maintain that many of my complaints about the series are legitimate, I’m now able to see things in a new light. More on that tomorrow, however. Today, I’m going to discuss when and how I feel the finale went wrong.
As disappointing as the finale was, in all fairness I felt the first hour (“Daybreak, Part 2″) was terrific, following as it did the events in the previous episode (“Daybreak, Part 1″). Having a specific mission at hand kept mindless chatter to a minimum, although flashbacks still managed to occasionally interrupt the flow of the episode.
Supernatural – 4×16 – “On the Head of a Pin”

Supernatural
“On the Head of a Pin”
Originally Broadcast Thursday, March 19th, 2009
A follow-up to “Death Takes a Holiday,” this episode was both intriguing and depressing. It was quite dark, too, which explains why it was depressing. It also seems to set up the rest of the season to get even darker, although frankly I’m at a loss as to how it could become darker than it already is. The Brothers Winchester are not happy campers: Dean is a broken man and Sam sucking down demon blood to amp up his already impressive powers.
LOST – 5×09 – “Namaste”
March 19th, 2009
LOST
“Namaste”
Originally Broadcast Wednesday, March 18th, 2009
After a one-week break, LOST is back. Picking up after their three-part arc that caught us up on everyone’s story (the Oceanic Six, Locke, and Sawyer’s group), it looked like the story was ready to move on. But, in the end, “Namaste” is actually a continuation of that arc, setting up the storylines for the rest of the season.
HYGOTS No. 23
March 19th, 2009
A good reason to name a column something like “How I Got These Scars,” besides a certain inspiration from ‘The Dark Knight,’ is that I’ve got a considerable amount of experience enjoying things that, while being highly visible, don’t get a lot of respect from the general public. With the release of the new Star Trek movie closer every day, it’s time to write about one of the big ones, ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture.’
Jericho Movie Talk Serious
March 19th, 2009
In January, news broke that a feature film version of Jericho was being developed. Yesterday SCI FI Wire reported that the movie is actively in development, quoting co-executive producer Dan Shotz:
“It’s not just wishful thinking,” Shotz said in an exclusive interview Tuesday at CBS Studios in Studio City, Calif., where he screened the pilot of his new series, Harper’s Island. He added: “We’ve … been developing a feature to hopefully make, because we would love to. I mean, … Jericho is so built in a way, … especially where we left off season two, to create a feature. So our hope is to launch this comic-book series and then, with the development at the same time of the feature, hopefully get that launched as well.”
The comic book series Shotz refers to will be released by Devil’s Due Publishing this fall.
