Summary

The episode opens with a delusional (as always) Baltar sitting on a sunny beach with Six. Six tells him that he should use his time on the base star as a learning experience; that he should learn all he can about the Cylons. She tells him that Cylon psychology is based on perception… how they choose to see the world around him, and that he chooses to see her. He tells her that he thinks she is either some part of Caprica Six or a damaged part of his mind. But she tells him that she is an angel sent from God.

A slow montage shows that Baltar may be losing his grip on reality while secluded away in the hold of the base star. The D'Anna Biers model (Three) tells him that ship is a big ecosystem and they are all part of it. But Three and Caprica Six are there for a reason; they want to know what Baltar knows about the location of Earth.

Baltar quickly reveals how he reviewed star charts for Adama and Roslin after Three says that it's a shame he has no knowledge, because it would have been reason to keep him alive a bit longer. The Cylons are now looking for Earth, having decided it to be their new home.

On Galactica the Viper squadrons are performing some exercises and new maneuvers. Starbuck is flying like her old self; reckless and dangerous. She slams into another Viper and the exercise is over. Apollo tells her that if she wants to kill herself she should watch out for everyone else. Apollo grounds Starbuck, saying that she is done flying.

In Tigh's bunk he is having hallucinations of his wife's voice, berating him for what he did. Not true hallucinations, but rather a mother scolding her son. The guilt is consuming him.

Little Kacey comes to visit Starbuck. What begins as cute as the little girl wants to see her surrogate mother quickly degenerates into something ugly. Starbuck tells the child's mother not to come around, in a not-so-nice tone. While understandable because of the hell that the Cylons put her through with Kacey, Starbuck going off on the mother was just kind of mean. But again, understandable.

A scene in the gym shows Helo with No-Longer-Fat Apollo. After an obviously vigorous workout Apollo tells Helo to never let him get like that again.

We get to see Gaeta reconstructing Baltar's work to find Earth. He tells Roslin and Adama that they can trust the work that Baltar did because he wanted to find Earth for himself. He tells about how he has reconstructed the work from the scrolls that Baltar was translating.

On the base star Caprica Six tells Baltar that they have sent ships to investigate the same pulsars that Gaeta just told the President about. Caprica Six further explains projection to Baltar, saying that while he sees a hallway she sees a forest.

Baltar talks with his projected Six, noting the similarity between his hallucinations and projections. She tells him that it might not be a coincidence and he wonders if he might be a Cylon.

Racetrack says she wants to keep flying with "Boomer" but "Boomer" thinks that her call sign was another person, that she's not really Boomer. Helo asks the mess hall for suggestions for a new name, and amongst the light-hearted jeers of Cylon related names (Chrome Dome, Titanium) Hot Dog yells out Athena, which becomes her new call sign.

Tigh comes into the mess hall and gravitates to Starbuck, and they start to ridicule the civilians that are on the ship, but when the people that stayed behind on Galactica start to join in Tigh and Starbuck tell them they don't know the misery they lived in.

On the base star Caprica Six tells Baltar that finding the Hera and giving his data on Earth's location is helping impress the other models. Baltar then asks about the other 5 Cylon models that he hasn't seen. Six tells him that she can't talk about that.

They are interrupted and told that the ship they sent to Baltar's location has lost contact. It turns out it has been infected by a disease. The Cylons explain to Baltar that if an infected Cylon dies and is resurrected then the disease could possibly spread through their whole race. The Cylons don't wish to risk infection by getting on the ships themselves and the disease caused Centurions to shut down. Baltar volunteers to go, prompted by his imaginary Six.

On Galactica Tigh and Starbuck are getting drunk, saying things like trust is good in theory but you can't trust too many people. Tigh talks about watching those he thought he knew switch sides.

Helo and Adama talk about the "speeches" that Starbuck and Tigh have been giving and they become afraid that too many people may be following them into dissent.

On the base star Baltar meets the "hybrid"… a human looking Cylon that is connected to the entire ship. They "are" the base ship, according to Caprica Six.

On the infected base ship Baltar sees bodies everywhere, some sick and some already dead. Baltar finds a huge mysterious device that doesn't look to be made by Cylons. A dying Six tells Baltar that device was found at the coordinates, and is what is killing everyone. The Six tells Baltar that she thinks he did it on purpose to kill them all. She becomes delusional and irate, and Baltar strangles her. He doesn't tell the base ship about what he found.

The Cylons debate about finding a cure, destroying the ship and even go so far as to consider killing Baltar. Three commands that the ship jumps, and the hybrid makes some sort of noise, apparently objecting to that course. Baltar still insists that he saw nothing of consequence on the ship.

On Galactica Adama confronts Starbuck and Tigh in the pilots' room. Adama takes Starbuck's sidearm and loads it, telling one of them to shoot him. After neither does it he calls them both cowards and tells them to leave the pilot's alone. When Starbuck tries to talk back he knocks her chair over saying that she is no longer like a daughter to him.

Adama then tells Tigh that he is full of hatred and that he is no longer the man he knew. He tells him to go into his quarters and not come out until he is the man that he was. Tigh tells him that that man no longer exists and that he won't be seen again.

In the washroom Starbuck pulls out her knife and cuts her beautiful long flowing hair… alas. As Tigh sits in his room drinking Starbuck goes to visit Kacey.

As Racetrack and Athena find the pulsars they also find the dying base ship….

Review

Another excellent outing for Galactica. It was nice to finally see the confrontation between Adama and Tigh. And poor Tigh, he's been through so much, but he is filled with too much rage to be the man he was… right now anyway. I also enjoyed the way Adama tore into Starbuck… the look in her face as he denounced her was just excellent subtle acting. She looked like she was about to burst into tears.

The only bad thing about the episode for me was the realization that the New Caprica arc (and its aftermath is finally winding down). Fat Apollo is gone, Starbuck's hair is gone, and Adama's mustache is gone. Only embittered Tigh remains. Which is good. Embittered Tigh is and has been the best character on the show. Aside from maybe Baltar.

Baltar was also given some interesting work this week. As Gaeta said, his sense of self-preservation is next to none. But his web of lies will catch up to him eventually. But it was great to see him as it offered another great view into Cylon society (which is a good thing, especially since "Downloaded" set the bar so high).

It was nice to finally see a character note the absence of the other 5 Cylon models. But at the same time Baltar's questioning about him possibly being a Cylon is getting old. Yes, it is one of the first times it's be been mentioned (aside from the season one episode) put its so prevalent and hinted to the viewer so much that it seemed a little bit like getting hit on the head with the idea.

Oh, and is the hybrid another of the Cylon models? Probably not, being as how Caprica Six said that they weren't talked about. But it did seem a little too much like Pilot from Farscape. Just a minor quibble, but it was painfully obvious to me.

Also, Boomer being rechristened as Athena is an excellent homage to the original series.
