Summary

The episode starts out with Enterprise being hailed from a Tellarite Shuttle. The conversation between Archer and the Tellarite Captain, Skalaar starts out bad, but then becomes unusually nice. (Hint: Trouble Ahead!!) Skalaar invites Archer to the planet's surface and then abducts Archer when boarding his shuttle. Skalaar is a bounty hunter and he was hired by the Klingons to bring Archer back.

Tucker brings the away teams back up from the surface and they go Tellarite hunting. During this, Phlox discovers T'Pol picked up a dangerous pathogen from the surface and needs to be quarantined. Both Phlox and T'Pol go through Decontamination. It is later found out that this pathogen T'Pol picked up triggers a strange neurological imbalance, the Pon Far.

Meanwhile, Tucker traces the warp trail of the Tellarite ship and finds out it's a false warp beacon. Tucker then knows that they must start from scratch. Archer finds out that Skalaar is not a bounty hunter because he loves the profession. The Klingons took his ship because he illegally crossed Klingon space. He's simply trying to pay the impound fees so he can go back to his former life as a cargo captain. Archer tries unsuccessfully to pull at his emotions to regain his freedom, but Skalaar informs him that he already contacted the Klingons, and if he doesn't deliver Archer to them, Skalaar will also have a price on his head. But then Skalaar must trust Archer because another bounty hunter is on his tail, with the reward in mind. Archer is allowed to take the helm and a small battle ensues. Their only hope is to head to a nearby planet and shake the pursuers. Using Skalaar's false warp beacons, they manage to gain the upper hand and disable the attackers. Unfortunately, they too must land because they took some heavy damage.

With Skallar's ship repaired, he tries to convince his estranged brother to go back into business with him. His brother tells him that his old ship he's trying to get back is nothing more than scrap metal. Skalaar's brother summarily refuses the offer and wishes never to see him. At this point, Skallar has no reason other than his safety to keep Archer. Archer petitions that they work together and Skalaar agrees. They meet up with the Klingons and take Archer to a holding area. Archer picks the lock, with the help of the lockpick Skalaar gives him, and goes to an escape pod. Enterprise shows up and disables the Klingon Ship and all is now well.

Review

Ok, did I miss something in this episode, or is this a complete re-hash of everything ever done in Trek? Ummm..check! (Except for a Vulcan female in heat, but that's another issue altogether.) This entire episode was just so predictable. For me, predictable = bad. Archer get's abducted… ohh, that's original. Once again, Archer uses his sense of morals to appeal to the semi-moral, semi-villain character he eventually wins over. Been there… done that.

Now on to T'Pol's Pon Far. Other than the acting, this was just truly horrible. I guess Enterprise's ratings are in trouble if the producers feel it necessary to keep T'Pol in her underwear most of the episode. What's next, have her complete nude but kind of blur it out to stay on the network? With Canamar earlier in the season, why in the world did they make this episode?

At least in previous re-hash Enterprise episodes, there was something unique about the story. I simply can't find that here. This is my least favorite episode so far in Enterprise.

The Good: (This is going to be a short list) - The Acting. Blalock is actually improving with her performance. - The Special Effects in this episode were done quite well. A big plus.

The Bad: - Archer being abducted… again!?!? - T'Pol's Pon Far: I'm just not happy that Vulcan females now go through Pon Far. At least the rest of the crew doesn't know about the Pon Far. Just that she went nuts on some spores. (Hey, they already did that!) - The Klingons: I suppose they resemble the TOS Klingons in being dishonorable, but to this point in the series, they have been shown as honorable warriors. - The whole Archer plot. - The whole T'Pol plot. - The whole plot period.
