What! No recap? No Super NBC Announcer Man? Instead, we dive straight into the episode and find Ted, otherwise known as Big Ole Radioactive Exploding Guy, receiving an instant message on his laptop despite the fact that he has no Internet Activity. The person on the other end says she knows what happened to Ted and shows a diagram of some sort of scary needle device. Ted suggests they meet and he is told to turn around. A woman is standing there. She introduces herself as Hana Gitelman and has the ability to interface with satellites/computers/the Internet/all that jazz.

She tells Ted that the same people who got to him also got to her. And she shows him the tattoo on her neck. She has a plan: she finds them and he nukes them.

And now we come to the recap. Only, no Super NBC Announcer Man. It which showed us the shocking moments from last week's episode.

Still clutching Mr. Muggles, Claire rushes upstairs yelling for her father. She runs into Lyle, who insults her, and she drags him downstairs to the kitchen and asks their mother if she recognizes her son. Mrs. Bennett is not amused -- and recognizes both of them -- and tells Claire to set the table. When Claire tries to explain that moments ago her mother did not recognize her, Mrs. Bennett tells Lyle to help his sister set the table. Lyle insults Claire again.

Isaac tells Mr. Bennett that Peter Petrelli is the man who will be responsible for the destruction of New York City. The Haitian stands solemnly in the studio, watching his boss talk. Isaac has discovered that Peter is invisible and one of his paintings shows Peter (or at least footsteps in puddles) on top of the Deveaux building. Worried that Peter might come to the studio before he can be apprehended, Mr. Bennett hands Isaac a pistol and tells him to "Save the world."

Matt pulls the bag of diamonds out of his sock drawer and pours them out on the dresser before he hears his wife in the hall and quickly hides them again. She is carrying a load of clean laundry and despite Matt's attempts to keep her from the sock drawer; she pulls it open and finds a diamond ring. Matt covers by asking if she likes it and Janice gets upset because she cannot get it over her finger.

And then Janice drops a bombshell: Mohinder called and wanted to talk about DNA. He knows about Matt's ability.

Mohinder and Sylar-as-Zane are on the job and Sylar-as-Zane is quite. They are looking for Dale Smither, who turns out to be a woman working in a garage. The only thing Smither wants to know, however, is how they found her. Turns out she signed away the rights to use her blood in the human genome project. Sylar-as-Zane manages to make a connection with Dale, he shows her his ability. Dale has super duper hearing (she can hear people's moods). Mohinder and Sylar-as-Zane offer to come back in the morning.

We see (and hear) Hiro trying to bust open the door to the storage closet. He opens it and finds S.R. Gustavson, with the State Gaming Commission. S.R. wants to know what an Ando is (a friend) and where the girl and suitcase are. Hiro wants to save Ando and insists on joining Gustavson.

Ted talks to his dead wife in front of her grave, promising to make the folks responsible for her death and their situation pay, despite the fact that she would disapprove. As he stands over the grave, the grass around him withers and dies. The circle of dead grass rapidly expands.

Isaac handles the gun Mr. Bennett gave him and looks at one of his paintings. It shows a chicken coop atop a building.

A similar chicken coop sits atop the Deveaux Building. Peter and Claude are fighting invisibly. Although Peter has had more than enough, Claude is trying to get Peter to use the power within his mind to stop him. And finally Peter does. As Claude tries to bust Peter's head open with a metal pole, Peter stop is cold with just the power of his mind. And then he shatters it. But none of Peter's friends are telekinetic. Then he remembers that the guy who was chasing him in Texas was telekinetic. Claude is impressed -- and then he attacks Peter again.

Back at Isaac's studio, Simone sees through Isaac's lie about Peter having left the city. He admits as much, explaining that he did not want to help drive her into the arms of another man. She tries to return her key to the studio again but again he tells her to keep it. She asks him to find Peter.

Hiro and Gustavson drive along slowly, discussing the drawbacks and benefits of having a partner. Gustavson is a rather depressing fellow.

In Primm, Nevada, Hope and Ando stop in front of a gas station. Hope is unwilling to answer any of Ando's questions and when he tries to help her with her bag; it tears open, and a veritable wave of poker chips rush out. Ando looks up to find Hope pointing a pistol at his head.

Mohinder congratulates Sylar-as-Zane for his work earlier with Dale. Mohinder explains that he is working on an inhibitor for abilities. Sylar-as-Zane takes umbrage and Mohinder backtracks, explaining that some abilities are dangerous. He tells Sylar-as-Zane that his father was killed by someone named Sylar. Sylar-as-Zane asks about Papa Suresh and Mohinder tries to brush him off.

Mrs. Bennett and Claire have a little chat in the kitchen, with Claire trying to talk to her mother about what is happening to her vis-à-vis the mind wipes and Mr. Bennett. But Mrs. Bennett is sure Claire is just worrying and suggests they go watch a movie together. Claire tries to convince her mother that she is serious. And then Mrs. Bennett collapses. Claire rushes to her side, begging her to wake up.

Peter watches as Claude takes care of the pigeons. Claude explains that Peter might have a sort of maximum potential. Suddenly, Claude is hit in the side of the neck with a taser and collapses. It is Mr. Bennett and the Haitian, who fires another taser at Peter. But Peter stops it mid-flight and then tosses Claude off the side of the building before jumping after him. Mr. Bennett and the Haitian watch as Peter flies off, carrying Claude.

(After a commercial break)

Mr. Bennett gets a phone call from Claire, who is crying. Mr. Bennett heads home. Claude will have to wait.

Janice is a bit upset with her husband. She took the ring to be appraised was told first it is worth some $40,000 and then was accused of stealing it. Matt shows her the bag of diamonds and she instantly tells him to return them. Then she has to sit down. Boy, she is upset with him. They fight, with Janice admitting that everything is not okay and Matt worried about how he is going to support the family. He offers to take the diamonds back but Janice wants him to call the precinct that very moment.

She hands him the phone. The phone rings and Matt takes the call. He then tells Janice he has to go somewhere and without explaining further, he leaves.

Peter stands above Claude as the invisible man wakes up. The first thing Claude does his punch Peter in the face. The second thing Claude does is start to yell at Peter. The reason Claude is invisible has something to do with the men who attacked them. Claude is sure Peter knew they were following him and figures out that it was Isaac who told the men about Peter. After showing Peter the angry tattoo on his neck, Claude storms out, telling

Simone asks Nathan if she has seen Peter. He assures her that he has people looking for Peter. But Simone wants Nathan to go public. Nathan is, obviously, against such a move. He is certain that if the public knew about folks like Nathan and Peter, they would all be rounded up and sent to a secret laboratory to be studied. As Simone leaves, Nathan tells her, nay, orders her not to take this public.

Hope has the pistol trained on Ando as he packs up all the poker chips. Suddenly, a car pulls up and Hiro and Ando find themselves in the middle of a fire fight between Hope and Gustavson. Ando gets shot in the arm. The two are able to take refuge in a luggage compartment in a bus. Something blows up and then Hope is pointing the gun at Hiro. She fires. Hiro squeezes his eyes shut and the bullet stops and then travels back into the barrel. The gun is jerked out of Hope's hand and she is tackled by Gustavson.

Hiro and Ando crawl out of the luggage compartment and watch as the police try to pull Hope and Gustavson apart. Shockingly, Ando's car is in fine condition.

Dale is hard at work underneath a car when she hears the beating of a heart. Someone is in the garage with her, someone who has no footsteps. It is Sylar. She asks about the strange sound she hears in Sylar's heart. His reply? The sound is murder.

Mrs. Bennett lies on a hospital bed with Claire at her side. A doctor walks in and tells Claire that her mother is stable. There are options. Mrs. Bennett has a subdermal hemmerage -- a bruise on her brain, specifically the area that controls memory. The doctor asks Claire if her mother has been exposed to radiation. It could be domestic violence, even. Anything Claire tells the doctor will be held in the strictest confidence and Claire spills the beans on the Haitian. But the doctor does not believe her.

At a cemetery, Matt finds Ted. And then Hana Gitelman. The scratches on their necks are from a pneumatic needle that injects tracking devices into the skin. And a shipment of needles -- with a radioactive isotope inside -- went to Odessa, Texas and was signed for by someone named Bennett. Ted and Hana need Matt, they need him to make sure Bennett is not lying . If they do this, they can help themselves. They can help others. They can be heroes.

Mr. Bennett finally shows up and tells Claire and Lyle that he convinced the doctors to let them take their mother home in the morning. Claire is brusque with her father and the two head out to the hall to have a talk. Claire yells at her father, telling him she knows what is happening to her mother. Initially, Mr. Bennett plays dumb but when Claire starts yelling louder, he pulls her out of view of everyone in the hall. He explains that the man who killed Jackie broke into their house looking for Claire. He had the memory erased from Mrs. Bennett's mind.

He promises it will never happen again. But Claire does not accept his apology. She stalks off.

As Mohinder and Sylar-as-Zane roll up in front of Dale's garage, Sylar-as-Zane seems to be in pain. He tells Mohinder it is just a headache. Mohinder gets out and discovers Dale's bloody and lifeless body inside the garage. He stumbles back to the throws up. The top of her head was cut off. Sylar-as-Zane convinces Mohinder that it would be a bad idea to call the police -- there are too many things they could not explain about the situation. Mohinder decides to warn everyone on his father's list and call the police anonymously from the road.

In a puddle of blood beneath Dale's body is an iPod, playing the rap music she was so fond of. The same rap music that Sylar-as-Zane has been hearing.

Outside the garage, Ando tries to hand Hiro the keys to the car. Hiro tells him to return to rental car and go home. Everything Gustasvan said in the car about having partners has gotten to Hiro. He does not want to lose Ando. As Hiro boards a bus, the driver asks him if he is alone. Hiro looks back at Ando, who stands sadly, and says yes.

The family brings Mrs. Bennett home. Lyle helps her upstairs and Mr. Bennett tries to talk to Claire. She wants to run away but has to stay to protect the family from him. And then Ted shows up. Mr. Bennett yells to Lyle, telling him to take his mother and get out of the house. As Lyle brings Mrs. Bennett down the stairs, Matt bursts in with his gun drawn. Everyone freezes. Matt is pretty sure everyone has some questions.

Isaac paints. He paints and paints and paints. And when he is done painting he looks upon what he has painted. It is Peter. And then Peter is in the studio. He attacks Isaac, asking him what the marks on his neck mean. He screams at Isaac with an inhuman voice and throws him across the room. Isaac grabs the pistol and points it at Peter, who promptly turns invisible. As Peter taunts him, Isaac twirls around, waving the gun in every direction. He senses someone behind him and opens fire, sending several rounds directly into Simone's chest.

As Isaac screams her name, Peter turns visible again and catches Simone as she slides to the ground. They bend over her as the life drains from her body. Her key to the studio is in her hand.

Review

At the halfway mark I was not sure what to make of this episode. Being introduced to a new hero was nice (and Stana Katic a.k.a. Hana Gitelman sure has a nice accent) but it was starting to look like this episode would turn out more or less like the last few episodes. Some interesting character moments but not much overall plot development. And then things started to happen and boy this episode delivered.

First things first: it looks bad for Simone. Which is good, because she was a pointless character who added nothing to anything. Isaac does not need Simone to be working with Mr. Bennett. He could just be worried about New York City exploding. So hopefully she is dead and gone and no amount of impromptu blood transfusions from Peter can save her.

Second things second: our gang of anti-heroes joining together to confront Mr. Bennett was a long time coming. Truth be told, it is a little disappointing that the person most responsible for the band getting together was only introduced in this episode. But I can gloss over that easily enough. With Ted, Matt and Hana on the case (if Hana is at the Bennett home with the other two) we might actually get some answers from Mr. Bennett in the coming weeks. And I could sure go for some answers.

We learned about the "scratches" that are on the necks of a handful of characters, among them Claude and Matt. They are the marks left by a pneumatic needle implanting a tracking device in the skin. Not exactly a shocking revelation, true, but a revelation nonetheless. And it makes me wonder if Claude had his tracking device removed (his marks looked worse than Matt's) because apparently he is off the radar. Speaking of Claude, he sure likes beating up Peter.

And speaking of Peter, wow. He is getting powerful and creepy. When he showed up at Isaac's studio and tossed him against a wall I was really starting to worry that he was turning evil. That voice was sure evil. And then Isaac shot (and presumably killed) Simone. Peter is probably going to be upset once that sinks in. If Isaac does not kill himself out of grief, Peter might just tear him limb from limb.

That brings me to Hiro and Ando. Poor Ando, getting shot and being told to go back home by his best friend. He looked so sad with his arm in a sling watching Hiro get on the bus. And the bus driver was Stan Lee! What a blast. But anyway, poor Ando. Will he really go home or will he stick around and try to join up with Hiro again? Only time will tell.

All in all, this was a very good episode. Matt is finally doing something important after so many episodes of doing nothing. Simone is dead. Peter is getting more and more powerful. Claire confronted her father (and Hayden Panettiere acted her socks off in this episode). Mr. Bennett may finally have to answer some tough questions. And poor Mohinder still has no idea he is working with Sylar.
