Summary

It's time for the 100th Annual Smallville Harvest Festival. Clark and Kara help move bushels of corn. Kara figures she's wasting her time when she should be flying about looking for that missing crystal from her ship. Clark reminds her that the people that took her ship will no doubt be looking for the pilot, and they're much more likely to find her if she's seen flying. Clark advises her that her best bet is to try and fit in. Kara gets her first look at Jimmy Olsen and decides she wants to get to "fit in" with him.

Three America's Next Top Model rejects show up to register for the Miss Sweet Corn pageant, complete with Tyra Banks attitudes. Kara notices the attention Jimmy Shutterbug lavishes on the would-be sweet-corn-cobettes (or is that niblets?) and decides she wants in on that action.

Later, Clark works in the barn and gets a surprise visit from Lana. He's understandably shocked, but pleased, to see her. They embrace.

Niblet Carly talks to her sweetie on the cell phone. She tells him that she's done letting the others call the shots, and they'll soon be in Cabo "with the money." As she stands in a flower shop, continuing her conversation (we don't hear what she's saying), the windows of the shop freeze over.

Lana gives Clark the Reader's Digest version of why she let him think she was dead (to protect him from Lionel). Clark wants to tell Chloe immediately, but Lana tells him that she committed a "serious crime" before she left, and she needs to clear her name before she officially comes back from the grave. Clark invites her to stay at the farm. Kara helps create an awkward moment when she walks in wearing a bikini and balancing a book on her head. Clark quickly assures Lana that Kara is his cousin, then tells Kara that this wasn't what he had in mind by fitting in. He asks her to get more clothes on, now. Kara does, in a blur, and Lana learns that Clark isn't the only one in Smallville that's faster than a speeding bullet. Lana leaves to let Clark and Kara discuss the beauty pageant, and whether or not Kara will be a contestant.

Clark reluctantly agrees that Kara can enter the contest (after all, he was the captain of the football team, not exactly staying out of the spotlight), but only after she learns to control her abilities. Clark sets up a watermelon and uses his heat vision to burn a smiley face on it. Kara's turn. She gets a little to intense and makes the mellon explode. Clark proclaims her not ready to get up on stage. Kara is determined to do things her way.

Backstage at the pageant, Kara isn't quite sure how to go about using makeup. She overhears Niblet 2 ask Niblet 3 what happened to Carly. Niblet 3 tells 2 that there was a problem, but she's taken care of it. Kara asks 2 and 3 if they'd be willing to help with her make up, but they give her the brush off. Kara walks out and walks past the flower shop. No one else has noticed it's frosted over, but Kara does. She wipes the frost off of the front glass and sees a frozen Carly inside.

Lex is at Luthorcorp, still wearing his wedding ring. He's paid a visit by Agent Carter, whom we recognize as the man who retrieved the crystal from Kara's spaceship. Carter produces a copy of the sketch that Lex's men have been passing around in a attempt to find Lex's rescuer. Why, Lex asks, is the government interested in the woman in the sketch, because Lex is.

Jimmy brings a picture of the Carly-pop to Chloe, figuring she'll jump on the story. Chloe isn't interested (partially, I believe, because she wants to get away from Enquirer-type stores and partially because she's a meteor freak herself), but Gabriel sees the photo and sends her and Jimmy off on an assignment to get the scoop on the other papers. Jimmy reminds Chloe that Lois is off on assignment in New York, and if Chloe wants to beat Lois out of the basement, she needs to give Gabriel what he wants.

During a break in a rehearsal of a pageant group-dance number, the sheriff asks the pageant director about Carly. Director lady only knows that she registered at the last moment along with two others girls. Jimmy is there taking pictures and snaps a shot of Niblets 2 and 3. They see him snapping away and make a hasty retreat backstage, which Jimmy notes.

Niblets 2 and 3 discuss using the pageant as cover for stealing the map that legend says in contained in a time capsule that's due to be opened during the festival. The map is supposed to lead to a great big pile of stolen gold bars. Jimmy snaps another picture of the two as they talk, and they notice. Niblet 2 tells Niblet 3 to do her thing.

Jimmy leaves a message on Chloe's voice-mail, telling her that he's got a lead on their "Ice Queen" (I still prefer Carly-pop, but whatever). His car starts to freeze over, and him with it. He looks out the back window and sees Niblet 3 with her hand on the trunk of his car. Niblet 3 walks off to watch Jimmy's final moments from a distance. She sees Kara show up and rip the door off of Jimmy's car.

Lana asks Lex to come to the Kent farm, and he does. He tells her that the District Attorney is not going to press charges against her, the evidence has been destroyed, and the man that Lionel paid to confess to Lana's murder has died of natural causes. Lana's a free woman. He tells her that every terrible thing he did was because he truly loves her, but she's not interested in hearing that, or it doesn't matter either way.

Lex tells Lana that his lawyers are drawing up a settlement agreement. Lana says she doesn't want his money. Lex points out that she managed to "siphon off" $10 million before her "death." Lana tells him it was only because she was trying to get away from him. He applauds her skill, rather than admonishing her, but he doesn't think Clark would see it the same way. On his way out the door, Lex mentions that he's looking forward to meeting Clark's cousin from Minnesota.

Jimmy recovers at the Smallville Medical Center. Chloe thanks Kara for calling. Kara takes offense and leaves when Clark asks if anyone saw her rip off Jimmy's car door. Chloe tells Clark that she's done some digging and found that the three Niblets have been friends since early childhood and were caught in the last meteor storm together. They've been traveling the midwest doing various beauty-related events, and at each one, there's been a major heist. Clark and Chloe figure that the "Weather Girls," as Chloe tags them, are after the map.

Niblets 2 and 3 approach Kara as she's packing up her makeup to leave the pageant. They tell her that they know she has powers, and they need her help for a treasure hunt. They show Kara a picture of the gold before it was stolen, and hanging in the picture is a crystal with a Kryptonian symbol on it. Kara's in, or so she says. Later, we see the time capsule has been broken open, and the map is missing. Niblets 2 and 3 decide that Kara has double-crossed them.

The pageant goes on as planned. Clark comes in at the tail end of the swimsuit competition. Kara and Niblets 2 and 3, who finally get names, Tempest and Tyler, respectively, are all in the lineup.

At the mansion, Lex tells Agent Carter that he's looking for the woman because she saved him. She didn't just save him from the river, but she saved him from drowning in the evil of his ways, like an angel. He tells Carter that the woman doesn't exist, so he should focus on his real item of interest, the space ship. Lex tells Carter that it wasn't the first spaceship to land in Smallville and hands Carter a hard drive containing all his research from the dam on what he figures is an imminent alien invasion.

Kara wins the pageant, to Clark's dismay. As she's giving her acceptance speech, the sheriff walks on stage and tells Kara that her friends tipped them off. She's under arrest.

In jail, Clark stops Kara from breaking out of her cell. Clark wants her to give him the map while Chloe tries to get Kara out legally. Kara says a gust of wind blew the map away after she got arrested. Chloe correctly figures out that the map is now in the hands of a Niblet, and asks Kara to tell them what she remembers seeing.

Tyler and Tempest dig up the parking lot of a gas station and find only a small box containing the Kryptonian crystal. Clark shows up and tells the Niblets that the crystal doesn't belong to them. Tempest creates a small tornado that tears up the asphalt in front of Clark. Unfortunately, the twister also digs up pieces of Kryptonite. Clark goes down. Kara shows up and takes care of the Niblets. She uses her heat vision to destroy the Kryptonite. It wasn't they way Clark would have gone about it, but he thanks Kara for saving him. He knows now that she's got to learn how to use her powers on her own.

Clark doesn't recognize the symbol. Kara tells Clark that it's some sort of S.O.S., and if the symbol is still on Earth, so is the Kryptonian that left it. Perhaps Earth played a bigger part in their fathers' plans than they'd expected.

Kara has gotten a job at the Talon to fit in, but she reminds Clark that neither of them are human, no matter how much Clark wants to be one. She tells him that if he thinks he can just hide out on the farm and grow old with Lana, he's fooling himself.

Lex's aide tells him they found the woman from the sketch, "just where you said she would be."

At the Talon, Jimmy and Chloe head for her apartment. Jimmy tells Chloe that when he first met her, he thought she was prejudiced against the meteor-infected, but now he sees that, sooner or later, they all turn out to be murderous freaks. Jimmy declares open-season on the meteor freaks. Being a meteor freak herself, this isn't exactly what Chloe wants to hear. Kara comes to pick up her bag from the pageant. She and Jimmy briefly lock eyes before he suggests to Chloe that they go upstairs. She agrees, but she couldn't help but notice the look that passed between the two. Kara, for her part, is disappointed that Jimmy is already taken.

Clark and Lana stroll through the festival, hand in hand. Lana's happy to be back from the dead. She was worried that Clark wouldn't forgive her for marrying Lex, or for leaving. She tells Clark that she wants there to be no more secrets between them, though she still doesn't mention the $10 million. Clark tells her he hopes she knows what she's getting into. She says that she does, and she wants the two of them to grow old together.

Lex meets Kara as she's leaving the Talon. He thanks her for saving him at the river. She denies knowing what he's talking about. He tells her that she ripped the roof off of his car, and he's certain it was her, but her secret is safe with her. He'll protect her like he would have protected others, if they'd been honest with him.

Kara continues to deny that she's who Lex thinks she is. Lex tells her that it's the second time someone from the Kent family has saved his life, and he doesn't believe in coincidences. Sooner or later, he claims, he'll learn the truth, and find out whether she's a savior or a warning.

Review

Yawn. Well, I was joking in the recap when I called the three Krypto-freak beauty pageant contestants "America's Next Top Model rejects." As it turns out, ice-queen Tyler was portrayed by the "winner" of the most recent season of Top Model. As such, I'll just chalk this lame episode up to a contractual obligation to the CW. It sets up a Chloe/Jimmy/Kara triangle (as if Chloe hasn't had a hard enough time in the love department), and it opens up a storyline regarding possible other Kryptonians still living on Earth. The episode also lets us know that eventually Lana's embezzlement will come to the surface and Clark won't be thrilled with that. With those seeds planted, I can't call the episode a complete waste, just mostly so.
