Summary
Things start to get steamy between Lois and Oliver when
Lois excuses herself to get Oliver a surprise. While she's
out of the room, Oliver hears a carjacking in progress.
He puts on the Green Arrow gear and goes to the rescue.
He shoots one of two carjackers with an arrow. The other
carjacker jumps in the car and takes off. The couple being
carjacked flee. Oliver manages to shoot an arrow into the
escape car, causing the driver
to lose
control and crash.
Lois comes back into the room to find Oliver gone. She's
wearing only one of his dress shirts, and feels more than
a little foolish at being jilted. Meanwhile, Oliver has
gone to deal with the carjacker in the crashed car. He's
more than a little surprised to see the first carjacker,
the one he'd shot, show up with a gun. The carjacker shoots
Oliver in the shoulder, leaving him lying in a growing
pool of blood.
The next day, Clark and Martha bring in groceries for
Thanksgiving. Clark isn't feeling particularly thankful
this year with it being the first Thanksgiving after his
father died, and after just losing Rya. Lois shows up and
gives them the news that she and Oliver are through after
his disappearing act during their date. She also brings
in a copy of the Daily Planet, with a story about the Green
Arrow having been shot and now missing.
At the Luthor mansion, Lana tells Lex that she's found
a charity to focus on. It's the Second Chance Halfway House.
She got the name by overhearing Lex mention it on the phone.
Lex isn't thrilled with her choice, and essentially forbids
her to get involved with that charity, though any other
charity would be fine. That goes over about as well as
you might imagine, and Lana walks out.
Clark finds Oliver in his office/penthouse/whatever. He
shows no signs of ever having been shot, and denies that
he was. He shows Clark the latest addition to his costume,
a video camera in his sunglasses. He also gets angry with
Clark for suggesting that he's getting sloppy (the door
was unlocked and the Green Arrow gear was in the middle
of the room). Oliver goes off on Clark for not helping
out with the crime wave in Metropolis. During his tirade,
he breaks a glass in his hand, cutting himself. He asks
Clark to leave. Clark uses his X-ray vision to look back
into Oliver's, and sees Oliver injecting himself with a
syringe. We then see Oliver wipe the palm he's just cut,
and there's no longer any sign of injury.
Clark tells Lois about Oliver's drug use. Lois thinks
it explains a lot, and tells Clark that Oliver said that
the holidays were difficult because they remind him of
his family. Clark advises Lois to stay away from Oliver,
but she tells Clark that Oliver has a problem, and she's
not going to abandon him.
Oliver visits a lab filled with test mice. He tells the
head doctor that he finally had a reason to test the "RL-65,"
and it works. She tells him to stop taking it, because
the lab mice have been showing violent tendencies. He won't
hear of it, noting how many lives the drug could save.
He also takes several vials of the drug with him when he
leaves.
Lionel shows up at the Kent farm to decline Martha's invitation
to Thanksgiving. When his wife died, he stopped celebrating.
He also doesn't think that Clark would want him there.
Martha tells Lionel that he's a part of her life now, and
she's thankful for that. Hearing that means a lot to Lionel,
and he comes thisclose to kissing Martha before catching
himself, apologizing, and leaving.
Clark brings one of Oliver's syringes to Chloe (he broke
into Oliver's apartment to get it), and asks her to have
it analyzed. He doesn't think Oliver is using it to get
high, but obviously can't say why he thinks that. He crosses
paths with Lana on his way out. She's there for lunch with
Chloe, and asks Chloe (after Clark is gone) to check out
the halfway house that Lex won't let her near. While they
talk about Lana suspicions, she faints. She recovers quickly,
and refuses Chloe's offer to take her to the doctor, asking
Chloe to keep it a secret.
Oliver dresses in his Green Arrow gear and reviews the
tape of the thug that shot him. He grabs a couple of doses
of the RL-65 for good measure. Lois lets herself in and
sees Green Arrow standing in Oliver's apartment. She sneaks
up behind him and hits him with a small barbell. It doesn't
knock him out, and he reacts by tossing her onto a glass
table. The table shatters beneath her. He sees who his
assailant was and starts to apologize, but she still doesn't
know who he is. She grabs her cell phone and starts to
dial 911. Green Arrow takes off, and when the operator
gets on the line, Lois requests an ambulance, as her back
is bleeding from the shattered glass.
Lana visits a doctor on her own. She tells him she's fainted
three time before, all in the last month. She's also having
sharp, stabbing headaches. The doctor tells her that they're
going to run some tests to see what's going on.
Lionel is staring at his book of Kryptonian writings when
Martha pays him a visit. He closes the book before she
can see it. He apologizes again, and she tells him he's
done nothing wrong. She can sense that there's "something"
between them, but she's not sure what, and she's not ready
to find out. At least, not yet. She does, however, still
want him to be there for Thanksgiving. He agrees to come.
At the Smallville Medical Center (Wasn't Lois injured
in Metropolis?) Clark visits Lois in her hospital room.
She tells him the Green Arrow was responsible. No, she
hasn't heard from Oliver. She concerned that either Oliver
is on some drug binge, or the Green Arrow has gotten to
him. Clark promises to track Oliver down. Lois isn't impressed,
preferring to call Chloe to help.
Green Arrow tracks down his shooter on the roof of a building
he's just broken into. To escape, he jumps several stories
from the rooftop, landing on the pavement below. He gets
up without a scratch, but Green Arrow is right behind him.
GA throws the thug against a fence and starts asking how
he managed to survive. Maybe the guy can heal, but he can
still feel pain, and after a beating, the guy says that
there's a female doctor that comes to the halfway house
and gives them "vitamin" shots.
In the lab, Dr. Black is destroying a batch of RL-65.
Lex is there, too. She tells him the the project is shutting
down. We find out that Oliver isn't the sole investor in
the project. Lex has also started funding things. He assumes
that Oliver is behind the shut down, but it's actually
Dr. Black's decision to kill it. She won't be a party to
any more violence, and is going to destroy all of the existing
RL-65. Lex says he can't let that happen.
Clark visits Chloe at the Planet. She's had Oliver's drug
analyzed. It spurs tissue regeneration, but it also affects
the part of the brain that controls violent tendencies.
Chloe has even found the drug's most likely inventor, Dr.
Black. Clark thinks that if she's supplying Oliver with
the drugs, he'll likely come back for more.
Clark and Chloe go to the lab, only to find it ransacked
and find Dr. Black killed. A green arrow at the scene leads
Chloe to believe that the Green Arrow was responsible.
Clark finds some files that show that Dr. Black was giving
the drug to kids at the Second Chance Halfway House, which
Lex finances (and doesn't want Lana getting involved with).
Chloe deduces that Lex hijacked Oliver's project, and when
the Green Arrow found out, he put a stop to it. Clark thinks
that Lex might then be the Green Arrow's next target.
At the Luthor mansion, Clark doesn't find Lex, but he
does find Lana. He notices that she looks sad and asks
her about it. She asks if he ever wishes he could turn
back time and do things differently. "All the time," he
answers, then again asks what's wrong and offers to help.
Lana tells him it doesn't have anything to do with him,
and asks him to leave.
Green Arrow corners Lex in the Luthorcorp headquarters.
He aims his crossbow at Lex and tells him to sign a statement
giving all his assets to charity. GA had been to the halfway
house and the director told him what had been going on
there. Then GA went to the lab only to find Dr. Black already
dead. Lex manages to pull a gun on GA, and he asks, "which
do you think is faster, an arrow or a bullet?" GA responds,
"let's find out." Both men pull their triggers, the bullet
and arrow narrowly miss each other. Both find their target,
knocking the men off their feet.
GA injects himself with a dose of RL-65 just as Clark
shows up. Oliver tells Clark to leave Lex alone and let
nature take its course. Clark tells Oliver that it's just
the drugs talking, and he's not a killer. Oliver tells
Clark that they both know that the world is better off
without Lex Luthor. Clark says that's not for them to decide.
He finds the drugs that Lex took from the lab and injects
him with a dose. At first there's no pulse, but then Lex
begins to revive. Clark and Oliver take off before Lex
sees them.
The next day, Clark visits Oliver. He's off the drugs
and back to normal. He decided to stop because he realized
that the drugs almost turned him into a killer. He'd just
wanted to be able to help people without having to worry
about getting killed in the process. He and Clark both
realize that they need to be thankful for the talents they've
been given, and Clark urges Oliver to join him for Thanksgiving.
Oliver is reluctant, noting that Lois will be there, and
she probably doesn't want anything to do with him. Despite
earlier trying to discourage their relationship, Clark
suggests trying to repair things with Lois, after all Oliver
and Clark aren't the same people, and neither are Lois
and Lana.
Speaking of Lana, she visits Chloe. Chloe starts to give
her a report on the Second Chance Halfway House, but that's
not why Lana's there. Chloe says that there are things
she found out about Lex that Lana should know, but Lana
doesn't want to hear any more about Lex. She tells Chloe
that she's pregnant.
It's finally time for Thanksgiving dinner at the Kent
house. Oliver shows up and makes up with Lois. Chloe tells
Clark that Dr. Black's killer turned out to be a kid from
the halfway house (and lies that she doesn't know what
was up with Lana when Clark saw her). Lionel is there,
too. Clark tells the crowd that the Kents have a tradition
on Thanksgiving of saying what they're most thankful for.
He's most thankful for his parents, who's faith in him
taught him to have faith in himself. Everybody digs in
with people passing food back and forth, smiling, laughing
and generally enjoying each others' company.
At the Luthor mansion, the scene is a bit different. Lana
and Lex sit at opposite ends of a formal dining table,
each with their own waiter. Lex notes that Lana hasn't
said anything all evening and asks if everything is okay.
She tells him everything is fine, and he toasts her with
"happy thanksgiving." She raises her glass in response,
but he doesn't seem to notice that she opts out of drinking
her wine.
