Jericho’s Comic Book Continuation to Run Six Issues
July 24th, 2009
According to this CBS press release, there will be a panel discussion of the upcoming comic book miniseries based on Jericho at Comic-Con International tonight. The press release includes the following tidbits:
The debut of the comic book series – Jericho: Season 3: Civil War — will pick up where the television program left off, answering many questions for its passionate fans. The first issue of the comic book is scheduled for an October release and will be a six issue miniseries from DDP and the show’s original creators and producers.
There will be 500 copies of a special black and white mini-comic for sale at $5 a pop. If anyone at Comic-Con drops by this panel and has any news to pass along, please hit the comments.

Dynamite Entertainment to Publish Stargate Comics
July 20th, 2009
ICv2 is reporting that Dynamite Entertainment has acquired the rights to publish comic books based on the various Stargate television shows (Stargate: SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate: Universe). Three ongoing titles, one based on each show, are planned. The Stargate: Universe series will be a prequel while the Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis series will apparently be continuations of the television shows (Season Eleven and Season Six, respectively).
Dynamite will kick things off with a special $1 introductory comic but no release date has been announced yet. Apparently, comics based on Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis were published in the past by Avatar, with the last issue(s) coming out in July of 2007. I had no idea.
Wasteland review
July 16th, 2009
Now, if I wanted to, I could just review the recently released ‘Wasteland’ #25. For those looking to sample without worrying too much about the developments of the past twenty-four issues, it would certainly be an ideal way to start. But then I couldn’t introduce the series as the best comic book you probably have never heard of. Published by Oni Press, ‘Wasteland’ would be the new ‘Walking Dead’ if it weren’t better, more complicated, more original, but as an independent, mythology-rich and large-casted wonder that has managed to stick around for more than two years worth of issues, four current trade paperback collections (and granted a deluxe hardcover edition recently, as all the cool kids are getting) without the benefit of breast-bearing ladies on every cover or any prior precedent as an entity, comparing it to Robert Kirkman’s zombie survival saga is the best way to catch you up to speed about the scope of what we’re dealing with.

Comics I Like – July 6th, 2009
July 6th, 2009
Earlier today I learned all about Supergirl’s underwear. It’s not as strange or creepy as it sounds. Certain folks at DC simply lean more towards modesty these days. Read on to learn more. I also talk about the trouble I’m having trying to switch entirely to buying trade paperbacks for new miniseries. And finally, I give my thoughts on Dark Reign: Elektra and Dark Reign: Fantastic Four.
There’s Going to Be a Galactica 1980 Comic Book?
August 23rd, 2009
I love the original Battlestar Galactica. It’s a deep, intense love, a jealous love that initially precluded me watching the “reimagined” version on Syfy (I ultimately did, but sometimes find myself regretting that decision). One thing I don’t love, though, is Galactica 1980. Sure, I’ve seen nine of the ten episodes and actually liked the final episode (“The Return of Starbuck”) but only because there was a marathon on Syfy and I had nothing better to do that day.
But does there really need to be a new “reimagined” comic series based on Galactica 1980? I didn’t even know this series — which begins next month — existed until a few minutes ago when I read a post at io9 about the current popularity of remakes and rehashes and reinterpretations and continuations on television, at the movie theater and in print. I’ll admit that I’m excited about the upcoming miniseries based on Jericho. And I’d pay any price for a comic book continuation of Earth 2.
But Galactica 1980?
