the futon critic reports that ABC’s new version of V will debut on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 at 8:00PM. Earlier, it appeared the show was destined for midseason. The series stars, among others, Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost), Morena Baccarin (Firefly, Stargate: SG-1, Joel Gretsch (The 4400) and Laura Vandervoort (Smallville). Here’s the official ABC fall preview clip:

It’s new comic book day! Dozens of new books will be hitting the racks today. Head over to Previews to see the list of new comics and then hit the comments to share which books are on your pull list this week.

It looks like the Futurama will-they-sign-a-new-deal-or-won’t-they drama has finally come to a close. According to The Toronto Star the original voice cast and 20th Century Fox TV have signed a brand spanking new contract that will see the likes of John DiMaggio, Billy West and Katey Sagal returning to the roles of Fry, Leela, Bender and others. Actually, the article notes that only two members of the cast have signed but suggests rest likely will before “the end of the day.”

While reporting the premiere date for Syfy’s Caprica (Friday, January 22nd, 2010 from 9-11PM), The Live Feed quoted Battlestar Galactica actor Edward James Olmos as saying, about Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica telefilm:

“I guarantee this will not be the last movie on ‘Battlestar Galactica,’” he said. “It’s going to be so successful it will rock their pants off.”

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan supposedly tells the story of the television series from the point of view of the humanoid Cylons (the skinjobs). So I imagine the next movie will be from the point of view of the Centurions, filled with two hours of clomping around on their metal feet, shooting things with their arm cannons, whipping out their nasty claws and glaring at things with their red eye.

Remember when you were excited about new Battlestar Galactica episodes and/or telefilms? I can’t. It’s been that long.

According to this CBS press release, there will be a panel discussion of the upcoming comic book miniseries based on Jericho at Comic-Con International tonight. The press release includes the following tidbits:

The debut of the comic book series – Jericho: Season 3: Civil War — will pick up where the television program left off, answering many questions for its passionate fans. The first issue of the comic book is scheduled for an October release and will be a six issue miniseries from DDP and the show’s original creators and producers.

There will be 500 copies of a special black and white mini-comic for sale at $5 a pop. If anyone at Comic-Con drops by this panel and has any news to pass along, please hit the comments.

According to a press release posted at its official website, syndicated action/adventure series Legend of the Seeker will return for its second season the weekend of Saturday, November 7th, 2009. Actress Tabrett Bethell will be a series regular, reprising her character of Cara the Mord’Sith from the Season One finale (read my review of “Reckoning” here). And Charisma Carpenter will have a guest spot in the premiere.

Is anyone else excited? Tabrett Bethell will add an interesting dynamic to the series. As I’ve mentioned time and time again, I became a big fan of Legend of the Seeker about halfway through the first season when the show turned a corner and became lots of fun. Of course, I’ve never read any of the Terry Goodkind novels the series is based on, and that probably makes things easier. So bring on Season Two!

ICv2 is reporting that Dynamite Entertainment has acquired the rights to publish comic books based on the various Stargate television shows (Stargate: SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate: Universe). Three ongoing titles, one based on each show, are planned. The Stargate: Universe series will be a prequel while the Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis series will apparently be continuations of the television shows (Season Eleven and Season Six, respectively).

Dynamite will kick things off with a special $1 introductory comic but no release date has been announced yet. Apparently, comics based on Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis were published in the past by Avatar, with the last issue(s) coming out in July of 2007. I had no idea.

Syfy has announced its fall premiere dates; you read the official press release at the futon critic). The latest entry in the Stargate franchise, Stargate: Universe, will premiere on Friday, October 2nd with a two-hour installment running from 9-11PM ET. The following week it will settle into its regular 9-10PM time slot. It will be be followed by Sanctuary in its second season. Personally, I’m much more excited about new episodes of Sanctuary than the premiere of Stargate: Universe. Still, I’ll give it three or four episodes to impress me.

Uh-oh. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox TV hasn’t been able to reach an agreement with the talented men and women who provide the voices for Futurama. Apparently they wanted ten times what they made during the production of the first run of episodes, seen on FOX between 1999 and 2003. The company seems confident they can replace the voice actors or, and this is pure conjecture, they’re confident that announcing they can replace the voice actors will help negotiations.

Either way, the new episodes announced in June are still projected to premiere on cable channel Comedy Central sometime in 2010. Will anyone want to watch Futurama without John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Billy West, Tress MacNeille and Katey Sagal as Fry, Leela, Bender, Professor Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg, Hermes, Amy and Zapp Brannigan?

Nominations for the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards were released today (see the complete list at the futon critic) and among the shows up for a statue is Legend of the Seeker. I actually grew into a relatively big fan of the series over the course of its first season. The category is Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Original Dramatic Score) and the episode nominated is the series premiere, “Prophecy,” for music by Joe LoDuca. I don’t often notice music in television shows so I can’t comment on the quality (I’m still disappointed the show doesn’t have proper opening credits with a theme song). But I’m sure Mr. LoDuca is thrilled to be nominated. He’s competing with five other shows: 24 and The Simpsons on FOX, Ghost Whisperer on CBS, Castle on ABC and The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency on HBO.
