Legend of the Seeker – 1×06 – “Elixir”

I really enjoyed this episode. It’s probably my favorite episode of the series to date. And not just because we got to see Kahlan in her undergarments. It was a solid story with action and magic and romance. If I had to pick one aspect of the episode that disappointed, it would be the involvement of the child thief whose name I can’t remember. Unlike “Listener,” the child in “Elixir” was only part of a subplot. But I actually found him more annoying than Renn from “Listener.”

I’ve been enjoying Legend of the Seeker so far. It’s not appointment television by any means but it gives me something to watch Saturday evenings when there is little else to do. I can’t say its as much fun as earlier action/adventure shows (like The Lost World, for example) but the scenery is spectacular and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of contemplating the complexities of Kahlan’s outfits.

This was the second standalone episode of Legend of the Seeker; last week’s “Bounty” was the first episode following the two-hour premiere. I don’t actually have all that much to say about this episode. The main storyline, in which Richard stumbled upon the town where he was born, was a good one. I can’t say the same for the subplot involving Zedd’s potential offspring, though.

Judging from “Bounty,” future episodes of Legend of the Seeker will revolve around Richard, Kahlan and Zedd on the run from the latest threat, be it bounty hunters, Darken Rahl, or weird cave-dwelling dragon creatures. In other words, the Threat of the Week. In many respects, that makes Legend of the Seeker no different from any other syndicated action-adventure series. Episodes of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess were for the most part stand-alone stories that saw Hercules and Xena battling a new foe each and every week.
Legend of the Seeker – 1×01/2 – “Prophecy/Destiny”

The following review contains spoilers for Legend of the Seeker through the current episodes, “Prophecy” and “Destiny,” originally broadcast the weekend of November 1st, 2008.
The first two episodes of this new, hour-long action/adventure series were shown back-to-back on my local The CW station from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Saturday, November 1st. And then, oddly enough, the first episode was shown again at 4:00PM the following day. It seems each new episode will premiere on Saturdays at 7:00PM and then repeat Sundays at 4:00PM. I’m not quite sure why each episode will be shown twice, or whether other local stations are doing the same thing, but it means I have two chances to tune in.
