The following
is a list of policies that all BBS posters must follow if they
wish to use this Lowerdecks.com feature. If you have any questions
after reading them, feel free to ask. These must be read before
registering.
Proceed
to the BBS...
BBS Etiquette -
No extreme foul language will be tolerated at any time. Respect
other members of the BBS by not overloading your posts with
foul language. The BBS censor
will automatically censor any words not approiate
for this BBS. When it comes to foul language, the phrase “If
it is said on Star Trek it can be said here…” applies
to acceptable use. If policy isn't followed: Posts may be edited
or simply closed with warnings from the BBS staff.
Registering
One Account - Users are allowed just ONE alias on this
BBS. If a user is found to have registered more than one
account, the last one registered will be terminated and the
user will be warned. Post counts will not be transferred
from one account to another. Any further attempts to register
another alias will lead to a permanent ban.
Aliases -
Do not register an alias that contains profanity,
obscene and sensitive terms, and the names of actors, actresses,
producers, directors, etc. that are involved with any television
show, book, movie, or any other media. If policy isn't followed:
Your username will be disabled and you will have to re-register
with another alias. Your post count will not be transferred
to your new account.
Spamming – SPAM
is defined as posting the same thing over and over in the same
thread, forum or in all the forums. Double Posts will also
be considered spamming. If you accidentally post twice, simply
EDIT the post you would like the moderators to delete. SPAM
also is defined by replying with short phrases time and time
again in one forum or all the forums. It’s ok to give
short responses most of the time, but constant posting of short
replies over a short length of time will be a violation of
the SPAM policy. If policy isn't followed: Posts may be edited,
deleted and/or simply closed with warnings from the BBS staff
placed inside The Brig.
Flaming – Flaiming
is defined as a direct insult to any BBS member, Admin, or
Mod. There will also be no direct flaming of any television
show, movie, book, ect. It's one thing to give constructive
criticism with evidence to back up your opinions, but just
saying something like "it
sucked" will
be considered a flame. If policy isn't followed: Posts may
be edited, deleted and/or simply closed with warnings from
the BBS staff placed inside The Brig.
Discrimination – Discrimination
against race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation,
or of any other kind will not be tolerated on this BBS. If
policy isn’t followed: Posts will be edited, deleted and/or
deleted by BBS Staff and a warning placed in The Brig.
Spoiler
Warnings - Please warn everyone by posting the word "SPOILERS" in
the thread title and at the beginning of the first message.
Once a SPOILER warning is placed in the thread title and
the first post of the thread, you do not have to place SPOILER
warnings on every reply inside that thread, provided what
you're posting pertains to what the thread's already discussing.
Example:
A
thread is dealing with the season finale of a show and you
wish to post something about the next season's premiere. In
such a situation, proper spoiler warnings MUST be followed.
If
you post in a thread that does not have a SPOILER warning,
use the BBS Spoiler hack by using the codes {s}{/s} (use
[ ] instead of { }). If policy isn't followed: Posts may
be edited and SPOILER warnings added with a warning can be
placed inside The Brig.
Signatures – Currently
signatures are enabled for use on this BBS. Signatures fall
under the same policy as the public forums in regards to
content and language. Signatures will be limited to five (5)
lines in length (including spaces). Images are not currently
permitted.
Ranks -
Note that excessive posting to achieve rank will be considered
spam. Refer to the consequences above. The ranking system can

Punishments
(Warnings and Bans) - If the BBS policies we've outlined
are not followed by any user, action will have to be taken
by BBS Staff. The warning process is as follows:
In-Thread Warnings – If a BBS user violates a
policy you can get up to three (3) “in-thread” warnings.
These are to protect you from Brig Warnings if you make an
honest mistake, or are new and not totally familiar with
the BBS Policy.
Warning – Once you get a third in-thread warning,
an official BBS warning will be placed in The Brig. Once
you get a Brig Warning, you will never receive in-thread
warnings. A BBS staff member will email the individual and
inform them of their warning and the reason(s) of it's issue.
Each time a policy is violated, a separate warning is issued
inside The Brig.
If the warning
system does not work to stop the member from breaking policy,
a ban will have to be enforced. The ban policy is as follows:
Bans - Bans will automatically be placed after the
member gets three Brig warnings. The ban would last 14
days. After it's completed, if the member breaks any policy
it's an automatic one month ban. Next, if the member returns
from the one month ban and breaks any policy it's a lifetime
ban (and possible report to the person's ISP in extreme cases).
Dropping
warnings - The first warning issued inside The Brig will
be dropped six (6) months after it's issue date. The first
warning will be the ONLY warning that is dropped. Each warning
issued later will be kept.
Plagiarism – Do
not post information you find from books, other websites, or
any kind of source without giving proper credit to the author
or site. If policy isn’t followed: Posts/threads will
be edited to correct the omission, or may be deleted, with
the user receiving a warning in The Brig (upon repeated failure).
Privacy – Do
not post information not meant to be public. Material such
as email, pictures, instant messenger logs, or anything else
will not be posted on the BBS unless the names, addresses,
instant messenger and BBS aliases or numbers, or anything else
that can identify anyone involved with the posting are removed.
If policy isn’t followed: Posts will be deleted and the
user will receive a warning in The Brig.
Your Account – Do not let anyone else use your
account. Make sure no one else can find or get access to
your password. If more than one person uses the same computer,
each person needs to have his or her own account. Make
sure you keep each other’s passwords secret. If policy isn’t
followed: The user(s) will receive a warning in The Brig,
and offending accounts may be suspended or deleted. Anything
posted under you account is your responsibility.
Profile -
Do not include any profanity or other material not suited for
this BBS. Do not link to any pornographic sites, WAREZ, MP3,
or other illegal content in your profile. If policy isn't followed:
Offensive material will be removed from your profile and you
will receive a warning.
Trolling -
Any individual who registers in order to cause trouble by spamming,
flaming, or violating any other policy in order to anger other
posters will receive a warning for Trolling. In rare cases
if a user mass spam, flames, or violates policy in order to
disrupt the normal operation of the BBS will be automatically
permanently banned without warnings and with or without announcement.
Vic's
Lounge – Vic's Lounge is a special forum designed
for chat room-like threads, promotion threads, and “game
threads” such as “Survivor,” “One Word
Stories, “ “Name Races A-Z,” and other thread-related
games. We encourage these, but these will only be posted
in Vic's Lounge. Note that post count advancement is disabled
in Vic's lounge only. If a thread is placed in the wrong forum,
it will be moved by staff.
Linking -
There are a few limitations we place on users when they wish
to include a link in a thread. Be sure it does not link to
any illegal content (ie. warez, MP3, ISO, or any other illegal
content/sites related to this material). If you wish to link
to a site you wish to promote, use the CYBERTREK forum. Any
other links can be used as long as they relate to a particular
topic. If policy isn't followed: Posts may be edited, deleted
and/or simply closed with warnings from the BBS staff.
