"Rebirth"

“Did we just see the beginning of a new life Form?”

“Yes, Captain. We witnessed a birth. Possibly the next step in our evolution.”

“Well, it’s been a long time since I delivered a baby, and I hope we got this one off to a good start.”

This subdued, but hopeful exchange between Kirk, Spock and McCoy so soon after the epic merging of V’ger, Decker and what remained of Ilia helps to illustrate one of the constants of life, and as a reflection of our own reality, the Trek universe itself – change.

However, in this case change is not all that we see occurring. Indeed, we see a birth, or as some may perceive it, a rebirth. The final moments in the existence of several unique intelligences, and their recombining into a new entity with it’s own unique awareness of the universe around it. What new experiences await this new life can only be guessed at, but Kirk views the future for this new “baby” with a sense of optimism and hope.

Likewise, we here at Lowerdecks have been beholden to the birth of our new site. A creation arisen from the demise of the venerated Section 31, who’s passing shall be mourned, but who’s final moments provided the impetus that fueled the grand undertaking that would ultimately become Lowerdecks.

And just like the hopeful glint that sparkles in Kirk’s eye when contemplating the future of V’ger, we here at Lowerdecks wish to impart a small measure of our own hope for the future of this site and pass it along to our faithful visitors as well as any brave new souls who venture into our world. Many exciting things are planned for the future and we hope that you all remain with us for what is sure to be a very interesting adventure.

Welcome to Lowerdecks!

The Human adventure is only beginning.
